Last minute Sydney Christmas celebrations

The Sydney Christmas celebrations are well and truly upon us. The geese have gotten fat and it’s nearly time to eat until your sides hurt. BUT maybe you still aren’t feeling as Christmassy as you’d like? Or you’ve been so busy feeding the geese that you haven’t made it to any Christmas celebrations yet? Fear not because we’ve found a few for you to really help you get into the spirit. Lights, Santa, Christmas carols or a little magic – there are some great things going on in Sydney, Surry Hills and Darlinghurst. It’s Sydney Christmas celebrations at their best.

City

Lego Christmas sleigh – Martin Place

This life-sized LEGO Santa sleigh is made up of over 10,000 LEGO pieces and is the ultimate Christmas photo opportunity. It’s open from 5-9pm and the final day is Friday 23 December.

 

The Rocks – Crate Santa

This 7-metre high Santa will be standing around until 27 December. It’s made up of over 1,200 crates and has got to be the ultimate Santa selfie opportunity.

 

Christmas eve El Circo

 

Prepare to be entertained, dazzled and well-fed at this9-course degustation feast with jaw-dropping entertainment. It’s circus, cabaret and burlesque all rolled into one captivating experience. Children over 12 years are welcome so it can be enjoyed by the whole family.

There’s nothing that gets us in the Christmas spirit more than a good old fashioned carol service on Christmas Eve. If you’re wondering where to go we’ve listed a few for you here:

This evening is guaranteed Christmas fun for any age group. Join in an interactive Christmas play and sing together as you explore the Christmas story.

Christmas at St Andrews Cathedral

There are several different services being held here over Christmas:

Christmas Eve

4pm – Family service and BBQ

6.30pm and 8pm Carol service with choir

11pm – Carol service

Christmas Day

8am – Holy Communion

10am – Christmas celebration with carols

Carols in The Rocks

If your holiday spirits still aren’t stirring, then a carol service in the historic Garrison church could be just what you need. This will be an uplifting service for the whole family.

For those with children, don’t despair. If midnight is too late there is an earlier service for children with all that’s expected; Angels, shepherds, wisemen and your favourite carols. There’s even an interactive original play performed by both children and adults – Born is the king written by Laurel Moffatt.
