5 things to do in Sydney between Christmas and New Year

The time between Christmas and New Year can feel a bit strange. You’ve just spent the last few weeks of the year frantically trying to catch up with friends, tie up work and organise yourselves for Christmas Day. Then it all seems to stop and it can feel like a no man’s land of things to do. A lot of places have shut down to take a well-earned break, and if you’re not interested in the Boxing Day Sales what else is there to do?

So to help out, we thought we’d pull together a list of things to do in Sydney in between Christmas and New Year.

  1. Visit the newly reopened Australian Museum

After an extensive $57.5million makeover, the doors to the Australian Museum are finally open to the public again. So take your family and take a look at the new exhibitions, artifacts, and huge new public space. It’s educational, fun, and a nice way to keep out of the sun – or the rain.

  1. Walk on the wild side at Taronga Zoo
    Arguably one of the most impressive positions for a zoo, you can all take a trip to Mosman by road or water to see the animals. There’s plenty to see and do here, feed a giraffe, watch the free bird shows, or even book tickets for a concert. It’s open every day in between and is bound to be a roaring success with everyone.

  1. Peer at some Penguins at the Sydney Aquarium
    If you can’t get enough of wild animals on land or in the sea, head to the aquarium down at Darling Harbour. Here you’ll find the world’s largest indoor system of Australian marine life and highlights like Shark Valley, the Great Barrier Reef exhibit, Japanese Spider Crabs and the Bay of Rays.

    The great thing about Sydney is that there are plenty of things to see and do for free. And plenty of parks to enjoy. So, why not visit a few in the days between Christmas and New Year. You could take a picnic, go for a wal, or ride your bike and just have some simple, relaxing fun.
