Sydney musicals to look out for in 2022

We love a good musical. Whether it’s a Broadway hit or a West End wonder, a modern-day phenomenon, or a timeless classic, it’s an emotive and powerful experience. So, we get excited when we see what the Sydney musical scene has in store for next year. 

Hamiton

The record-breaking musical is now showing at the Sydney Lyric Theatre until 27 February. Created by Lin-Manuel Miranda, it’s a revolutionary masterpiece that blends hip-hop, jazz, R&B, and broadway to tell the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton.

Six the Musical

A musical straight from the West End that re-introduces us to the six wives of Henry VIII. But this time they’re six rebellious heroines that remix over 500 years of history and heartbreak in celebration of girls. It’s been a huge hit around the globe and now it’s coming to the Sydney Opera House. So get in quick and book your tickets before they sell out.

Head over Heels

Opening at the Hayes Theatre in Elizabeth Bay on February 18 2022 and running until March 19, this is a jukebox musical for those that love 80s rock. With hits from The Go Go’s and Belinda Carlisle, it’s a loose adaptation of the poem Arcadia, written by Sir Philip Sidney. It’s different, vibrant, fun, and well worth going to see.

Moulin Rouge

Baz Luhrmann’s revolutionary film has been brought to life on stage. And it will now be here in Sydney at the Capitol Theatre. Cruel Intentions – the 90s musical

This is the ultimate 90s party that’s based on the acclaimed cult movie starring Reese Witherspoon and Sarah Michelle Gellar. You’ll be drawn deep into the manipulative world of Manhattan’s most tempting liaisons as you listen to nostalgic hit after nostalgic hit.
