Ready for international travel? Here’s a quick look at the rules…

Are you as excited as us to hear that international travel is back on the cards? As you may have guessed, we love to travel here at Laing Real Estate. In fact, we shared our love of travel with you last year in our International Travel Dreaming series.

But international travel or travel, in general, has changed a lot over the last two years. There are things we need to consider that we didn’t even really know the meaning of before. PCR or RAT, COVID, do we need to wear a mask? All of these things have come to public knowledge recently and they will affect how we travel. Plus, border closures, openings and rules around entry.

So, we thought we’d summarise a few key destinations to give you a good base. This isn’t a detailed breakdown though so you’ll need to do your own research. And it’s worth understanding what each country’s definition of “fully vaccinated” is as it can vary.

New Zealand

The borders are now open for visitors from anywhere in the world and there are no self-isolation requirements. You do have to be fully vaccinated and provide a negative PCR test no more than 48 hours before OR a supervised RAT no more than 24 hours before you leave Australia. You can find out more here.

USA and Hawaii

Open for fully vaccinated travellers with no quarantine requirements.

In order to travel you’ll need to provide proof of your vaccination status or a medical exemption and a negative PCR test taken no more than 24 hours before you depart. There are also other things to consider which you can find out here or at the Centres for Disease Control (CDC).

Canada

Open for fully vaccinated travellers with no quarantine requirements. Everyone needs to have a quarantine plan in place though which you’ll be asked at the border, just in case you don’t meet the requirements of a fully vaccinated traveller.

To enter you’ll need to provide:

  • Results of a professionally administered or observed pre-entry test
  • ArriveCAN receipt with the correct letter beside your name
  • Proof of vaccination uploaded into ArriveCan

Bali

Open for fully vaccinated travellers who can provide proof of vaccination status or a medical exemption and a negative printed PCR test within 48 hours of departure.

Those who have been double vaccinated are required to quarantine for 5 days, and those who have been triple vaccinated are required to quarantine for 3 days at a designated facility. For more information, you can head to Sherpa.

UK

Open for fully vaccinated travellers providing you’ve completed an approved course of the vaccine at least 14 days before you arrive.

For more information including the entry requirements for those who are unvaccinated, take a look at the UK travel information page.

Phuket

Open for fully vaccinated travellers who can provide proof of vaccination and a negative PCR test within 72 hours prior to departure. Find out all the requirements here.

Japan

Open for fully vaccinated travellers.

Quarantine? Yes, Australian travellers must quarantine for 3 days at a designated facility and self-isolate for 4 days after that. Find out more at smarttraveller.gov.au

Fiji

Open for fully vaccinated Australians who can provide proof of vaccination and a negative PCR test no more than 2 days before departure, or a Rapid Antigen Test no more than 24 hours before departure. There are some quarantine requirements and you can find all the information here.

Singapore

Open for fully vaccinated travellers only.

Singapore is operating what is called the Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) which Australia is part of. As long as you have only been in Australia or another VTL country within the last 7 days, you can enter Singapore without quarantine as long as you agree to take a supervised Rapid Antigen Test within 24 hours.
