Pick up fresh bread in Kings Cross, browse handmade jewellery in Paddington, or spend an evening exploring vintage stalls in Darlinghurst. The weekend markets in Sydney’s east make it easy to turn a few errands into a good day out.
Some run every Saturday, while others are a once-a-month outing. Here’s where to go, when to arrive and how to fit a couple into your weekend.
Kings Cross Market: Saturday mornings in Fitzroy Gardens
Kings Cross Market is an easy place to start. It runs every Saturday from 8am to 2pm in Fitzroy Gardens on Macleay Street, near the El Alamein Fountain.
Browse the produce, bread and flowers, then leave time for something to eat. You can do your weekly shop or simply pick up a few things for lunch and enjoy a wander through Potts Point.
Local tip: Go early if shopping is your priority, and bring a sturdy bag for anything that catches your eye. If you’d rather sit down for a coffee afterwards, our Potts Point coffee guide has a few nearby stops to try.
Paddington Markets: Saturday fashion, art and design
For handmade gifts and something a little different, head to Paddington Markets. The market has been running since 1973 and brings together more than 150 stalls, with fashion, jewellery, ceramics and artwork among the finds.
It’s held at 395 Oxford Street every Saturday from 10am to 4pm. There are food stalls too, so you can take your time rather than squeeze everything into a quick lap.
Make a morning of it: Visit Kings Cross first, then head to Paddington once the stalls open at 10am. Leave some room in your bag for the second stop.
Surry Hills Markets: a monthly vintage browse
Surry Hills Markets is the one to put in your calendar. It runs on the first Saturday of each month, from 8am to 4pm, at Shannon Reserve on Crown Street.
The focus is on handmade, second-hand and recycled goods, with more than 60 stalls to explore. Allow yourself time to look properly: this is a good stop for vintage clothing, unusual homewares and the sort of find you weren’t planning to buy.
The market supports the Surry Hills Neighbourhood Centre and its community services. After browsing, you can make your way along Crown Street for lunch or a coffee.

Darlo Night Market: an evening in Darlinghurst
If a slow morning is more your style, save your market visit for the evening. Darlo Night Market runs on the third Saturday of the month, from 5pm to 9pm, in the grounds of St John’s Anglican Church on Darlinghurst Road.
Expect emerging designers, pre-loved clothes, vintage fashion and street food, with DJs and music while you browse. It’s a relaxed way to combine a little shopping with dinner, without booking a table.
EQ Markets: a midweek option as well as Saturday
A little further afield, EQ Markets runs every Wednesday and Saturday from 8am to 2pm at the Entertainment Quarter in Moore Park.
Under the Market Canopy, you’ll find fresh produce, flowers, hot food and artisan stalls. It’s a useful alternative if your Saturday is already full, or if you’d like to combine the shopping with another stop at the Entertainment Quarter.
A few tips before you go
Check the calendar. Kings Cross, Paddington and EQ run every Saturday. Surry Hills is on the first Saturday of the month; Darlo is on the third, in the evening.
Choose two stops, not all five. Give yourself time to browse, eat and enjoy each place. Check your route before heading out, especially if you’re combining suburbs.
Bring a tote and a little cash. Payment options vary between stallholders, and a reusable bag makes carrying everything home much easier.
Check the organiser’s page before leaving. Market dates and hours can change, particularly around holidays or bad weather. The links above take you to the relevant organisers.
