What to do in Sydney on Easter long weekend

Hot Cross Buns! It’s nearly Easter already – anyone else feel like this year is zooming through like a rabbit on rollerskates??

This year the Easter long weekend is 14 – 17 April. Some people like to go away and some like to stay in Sydney to celebrate. If you’re one of the latter, we’ve put together a few options for you to choose from. Of course, there’s The Royal Easter show or the Sydney family show in Moore Park but you may be looking for something different….

The Easter Parade – Easter Monday

Thousands of Sydneysiders get together to celebrate the true meaning of Easter. Giant inflatables, animal costumes, marching band, stilt-walkers and, many creative and colourful displays set against the sound of music and celebration. Find out more…

Easter Sunday Lunch Cruise, Sydney Harbour

Mmmmm relaxing on Sydney Harbour, enjoying a delicious seafood and carvery buffet, listening to live music…..sounds like a great way to spend Easter Sunday to us! If you’d like more information visit Vagabond Cruises.

Centennial Park Easter Egg hunt

1,000 children, fuelled by chocolate, racing around Centennial Park looking for more chocolate. This will either entice you or frighten you, there’s not really much more to say. If you’re enticed, then it’s a good idea to get there early as tickets tend to disappear quite quickly.

The Grounds of Alexandria

The Grounds really know how to put on something special! There’s so much to choose from over the Easter hols, whether you’re young or just feel young they certainly cater for all:

  • Once upon a time at The Grounds – March 25 -27

Golden Easter Egg hunt, Humpty Dumpty wall (giant egg) for selfies and real-life roaming children’s storybook characters are a few of the things on offer.

  • Giant Easter Egg A.K.A Humpty. This baby is over 3m tall so there will definitely be enough to go around. Community cracking will be held on Easter Sunday at 2pm.
  • Family Easter lunch on Easter Saturday and Sunday
  • Kids Easter Egg Hunt – Easter Saturday at 8.30am, the Easter Bunny will be making a special appearance and with thousands of chocolate eggs to find (including the coveted Golden Egg) it’s sure to be scrum-diddly-dumptious!
  • Easter cake decorating masterclass – learn to create a 4-tiered munchable masterpiece 5 – 13 Apr. Booking essential.

The Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel Easter Festival

Ahhhh Watsons Bay. It never fails to be a lovely place to be on a nice sunny day. And when there’s food involved it gets a whole lot better. They’re hosting a festival all Easter Weekend, offering a banquet feast for $49.50 pp. There’s live music and Corona buckets on Easter Saturday, a Captain’s Club Party with live DJs on Sunday and seafood platters for recovery Monday.
If you have kids there’ll be an Easter egg hunt in the park next door at 1pm every day, except on Sunday. On Sunday there’ll be an Easter Egg hunt but it’ll be IN THE WATER!!! Yes, really, an aqua Easter Egg hunt (we have no idea how they’re going to pull that one off but we do know it’ll be fun!). We’re hoping they use the term “for kids” loosely.

Opening weekend at The Newport

If you’re keen to have a gander at Merivale’s latest venture, The newly renovated Newport Arms will be opening their doors for the first time. From noon on Good Friday, the doors will be open and you’ll be free to experience The beer garden, pizzeria, vintage gymnasium and chef Sebastien Lutuad’s menu. There’ll be live music and DJs but Sunday is where it’s at! Beginning with an Easter egg hunt at 9am for those with little ones and finishing off with the first Newport Sunday Session from 3pm.
