Shop for unique, handmade gifts with local Sydney Artisans

Where to find Sydney Artisans for unique, handmade gift ideas

In a world where most things are mass produced, it’s a real treat to find things which are handmade — especially when the makers are local Artisans. These items are unique and more often than not, a one-of-a-kind purchase. Because someone has taken the time to sit and make it. And because we love to support local business, we thought we’d go on the hunt for Sydney Artisans so that you can find them too.

Plus, some of you may be starting to think about unique Christmas gift ideas, or some of you might just love supporting small, local Australian businesses.

So, if you do love to find local Artisans or you just love handmade, here are some tips on where to find them.

The Rocks Markets

Wander the cobbled streets of this historical part of town and discover a vibrant market filled with artisans and talented food makers. You’ll find makers like Stuga where you can buy traditional, hand carved shaving brushes and handmade shaving soaps, handmade leather handbags, wallets, leather phone cases and more.  Then there’s the Village Providore where you can try handmade fudge and nougat — perfect for a gift or a treat for yourself. And then, when lunchtime comes, why not try some traditional, and delicious, Spanish Mediterranean Paella from La Gitana.

Sydney Made

Now, here’s your chance to visit a face-to-face market or their online shop sydneymade.com.au Here you’ll find products ranging from bespoke homewares, hand-crafted jewellrey, original art and quirky illustrations, small-batch ceramics, personalised gifts, even handmade goodies for your pets. But if you’d rather see these things in person, they do host markets but not on a regular basis. The last market was in July of this year, so keep an eye out for the next date.

Artisan Collective Australia

This is an online collective connecting you with some of Sydney’s best handmade businesses. There is a good range of product categories that range from jewellery to beauty to baby and kids as well as pets and home/garden.

Artisans Market, Glebe

This outdoor market is a showcase for local designers and makers. You’ll find a high quality mix of homewares, fashion, jewellery, art, beauty products and more across approximately 60 stalls. And the next one is being held on 10 December 2022, which is in perfect time for Christmas.

Artisan’s Nest, Newtown

This small nest of handmade goodies can be found on King Street in Newtown and on Hall Street, Bondi Beach. It’s a collection of work from local Artisans and Makers curated by two local Makers, Julia and Teresa. They source the producers individually and offer both an online store and walk-in.

Artisans Markets, North Sydney

This sustainable and unique market is held throughout the year in Waverton, North Sydney. It is filled with original and handmade products from emerging and established designers, artists and makers. And it’s set within the stunning and historical Coal Loader site.

Finders Keepers Market

A moving market which sets up in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney throughout the year. Here you’ll find a collection of over 1200 sellers who are showcasing their handmade wares. So, if you’re looking for a unique gift for someone you love, or you just want to treat yourself, the next Sydney market will be held between 9-11 December at The Cutaway, Barangaroo.
